/ ATTACHMENT Docket No. 50-247 Consolidated Edison Co. of N.Y., Inc.

LER-81-017/03L-0 Indian Point Unit No. 2 During normal operation an apparent premature operation of the i

series over current tripping device associated with the West-inghouse type DB-75 normal feed breaker for 480V Bus Section SA caused the autom, atic opening of the normal feed breaker-and the actuation of the bus lockout relay. . Emergency Diesel Generator No. 21 was prevented from tying in to Bus Section SA due to actuation of this lockout relay. The normal feed breaker was recl'osed in 5 minutes on June 30, 1981 and in 22 minutes on July 8, 1981 restoring power to the affected Bus Section. Following the event of July 8, 1981, tne lockout ,

relay for Bus Section SA was removed from service pending testing of the normal supply breaker.

The sudden trip of the subject breaker has been determined to be attributable to a defective over current tripping de-vice. The over current device has been replaced and teeted satisfactorily and the breaker and its associated lockout re-lay returned to normal service.
