Dear Mr. Lundvall:
P.M. Freutzer-3 b/
j By letter dated August 5,1980, you provided a r.omprehensive repor of the power distribution episode of Calvert Cliffs, Unit No.1. This episode resulted from a crud buildup primarily on the lower part of the fuel assemblies. The crud was postulated to consist of corrosion products from the reactor coolant system piping surfaces as a result of an abnorinally high oxygen ingress.
We have completed our review of the report and find that you have taken positive action to prevent reoccurence including pericanent changes to procedure and several hardware modifications.
In a recent telephone conversation with your Mr. J. Lippold, we were informed that fuel inspection performed in late 1980 revealed an acceptable increase in the zirconium cxide thickness.
We consider this episode satisfactorily resolved and commend your staff for the professional handling of the entire problem.
Sincerely.
