Virginia Electric and Power Company North Anna Power Station, Unit #2 Attachment: Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-339 Report No. LER 81-033/03L-0

Description of Event

On April 14, 1981, during steady state operation at 100% power, quench spray pump 2-QS-P-1B was removed from service for maintenance purposes rendering the Train B containment quench spray subsystem inoperable.

This event is contrary to T.S. 3.6.2.1 and reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.b.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence The quench spray subsystems in conjunction with recirculation spray subsystems are designed to provide necessary cooling and depressurization of the containment building following any loss of coolant accident. Two full-size, redundant quench spray subsystems are provided. Train B subsystem was restored to operable status well within the 72 hour8.333333e-4 days
0.02 hours
1.190476e-4 weeks
2.7396e-5 months
time limitation allowed by T.S. 3.6.2.1.

The Train A quench spray subsystem was operable during this period to depressurize the containment if required. The public health and safety were not affected.

Cause of Event

The Train B quench spray pump was removed from service to allow repair of a leaking drain valve on the pump discharge line.

Immediate Corrective Action

The leakage past the seat of the drain valve was corrected by i

replacing the valve disc. After the work on the valve was completed, the Train B quench spray pump was returned to service.

Scheduled Corrective Action No scheduled corrective action is required.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No further actions are required.

Generic Implications I

There are no generic implications associated with this occurrence.
