UNIT: McGuire 1 DATE: 02/15/90-NARRATIVE
SUMMARY
Month: January 1990 McGuire Unit 1 began the month of January operating at 100% full power. The unit operated at or near 100% full power until 01/08 at 1015 when a reactor / turbine trip occurred due to loss of both feedwater pumps. During the turbine coastdown, lube oil was lost to main turbine bearings. Bearing vi. . temperatures increased to above 200*F before oil pressure was restored. At 1030 on 01/08, upon being notified of oil spilling.from the generator, operators manually purged hydrogen from the generator. At 1035 on 01/08, attempts to put turbine / generator on turning gear failed as turbine was locked. Investigation of turbine damage was begun. At 0930 on 01/15, due to
- excessiveLbearing damage, the decision was made to begin the End-of-Cycle "6" refueling outage originally scheduled for March, 1990. The unit ended the month shutdown for the refueling outage.
