'i[" In regard to the Semiannual _ Effluent Release Report for the first and second quarters of 1989, the Safety Review Committee has identified information that was inadvertently omitted from that report, pertaining to an unplanned  ;

release that occurred on May 1, 1989. A review of this omission determined that:it was a result of a misinterpretation of the sampling requirements  ;

followin?.c' reactor trip. In order to preclude a similar misinterpretation from occes vog, instructions regarding the sampling _ actions required after a >

reactor trip have been issued to the appropriate personnel. Attached is a

Summary of the third unplanned release of the-first half of 1989, i p On May.1,1989 Arkansas' Nuclear One, Unit 1 tripped. During this' trip,'the E Main Steam Safety Valves lifted, releasing steam from the secondary plant 1 I . system. The secondary system contains a small amount of radioactive- ,

L material, some of which was released when the Main Steam Safety Valves. '

lifted. The activity of the radioactive material released was very small i (less than 1% of the quarterly limit) and no adverse consequences are j expected. ,
