This letter refers to the routine safety inspection conducted by Mr. H. Kerch
of this office on November 13-16, 1989 at the Beaver Valley. Unit 1, Nuclear
Power Plant in Shippingport, Penn:ylvania. Mr. Kerch discussed the findings of
,
the inspection with Mr. W. Lacey of your staff at-the conclusion of the
,
inspection.
This inspection focused on activities related to ultrasonic indications in the
"C" feedwater system steam generator elbow to pipe weld and damage identified
to the "A" and "C" feedwater system piping snubbers and. supports. Areas
,
examined during this inspection are described in the NRC Region I inspection
report which is enclosed with this letter. WithinL these areas, the inspection
consisted of selective re-examination and review of ISI data and engineering
activities.

Within the scope of this inspection, one of your activities appeared to be in

violation of NRC requirements. A written response is required for each of the
violations.
