NEW SWITCHGEAR ROOM SAFETY EVALUATION - HADDAM NECKPLANT(TAC 65034)
As required by order, Connecticut Yankee Atomic Power Company (CYAPCO) is i
committed to comply with 10 CFR 50, Appendix R, before the restart from Cycle
- 16. CYAPC0 has committed to install a new switchgear room to comply with Appendix R.
CYAPC0 furnished several Plant Design Change Records (PDCRs) to describe the changes and additions being made.
In addition, CYAPCO provided additional information by letters dated July 10, July 31, and September 29, 1989.
The switchgear room review has been divided between several disciplines. This review of the PDCRs and responses to request for additional information, which will be one of several, focused on the electrical design of the new switchgear room. We have concluded that the proposed electrical design is acceptable as discussed in the enclosed safety evaluation.
This conclusion is based on the approval of your exemption request related to Appendix R and your commitment to provide a copy of y'o'ur Regulatory Guide 1.75 compliance review. Any instances where the Appendix R separation criteria are l
not met will require further NRC review. A separate evaluation will address the Appendix R shutdown considerations following postulated fires in various fire areas.
