Mu111 kin of this office during the period October 11-31, 1989, of activities , i authorized by NRC Operating License DPR-40 for the Fort Calhoun Station, and to the discussion of_our findings with you and other members of your staff at the
conclusion of the inspection. Areas examined during the inspection included review of licensee event report followup; operational safety verification; plant tours; monthly maintenance observations; monthly surveillance observations; security observations; radiological protection observations; in-office review of periodic, special, and nonroutine event reports; review of 10 CFR Part 21 reports; and followup of onsite events. Within these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examination of procedures and representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspectors. The inspection findings are documented in the enclosed inspection report. -During this inspection, it was found that certain of your activities were in violation of NRC requirements. However, based on your immediate corrective actions, the meeting with NRC management in the Region IV office on October 5, 1989, and the commitments provided by your letter of October 31, 1989, no reply to this violation is required. We will review the implementation of your corrective actions during a subsequent inspection. One unresolved item is identified in paragraph 5 of the enclosed inspection report. We have also examined actions you have taken with regard to previously identified inspection findings. The status of these items is discussed in paragraph 3 of the enclosed report.
