Enclosed is a prepublication copy of a draft NUREG document providing information on spent fuel shipment routes approved by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission as of September 10, 1980.

I This document is in response to numerous requests for such infora tion received by the Commission since new safeguards regulations became effective for spent fuel snicment routes in July 1979.

We are forwarding it to you at this time solely fcr your information and no response is necessary.

We intend to make this document available to the public in draft form on October 24, 1980.

A published version will be made available several weeks thereafter.

This document'was developed in conjunction with other efferts now being under-taken by the NRC to ensure that state governors are aware of shipments of radioactive wastes by NRC licensees through their states.

In response to the recently signed Puolic Law 96-295, we are developing regulations which will result in notification to the states of shipment times and routes prior to each such shipment by an NRC licensee.

We intend to request your comments on these prcposed regulations during tne fall of thi-s year, prior to making them effective.
