December 15, 1977 Docket No. 50-219 Jersey Central Power and Light Company ATTN: Mr. I. R. Finfrock, Jr.

Vice President - Generation Madison Avenue at Punch Bowl Road Morristown, New Jersey 07960 Gentlemen:

We have reviewed your letter dated December 1,1977, which submitted information we requested by letter dated November 23, 1977, about the environmental qualification of the electrical connector assemblies at the Oyster Creek Station.

The information was to include responses to the questions of I&E Bulletins No. ',7-05, dated November 8, 1977, and No.77-05A, dated November 15, 1977. We notified you on December 7, 1977, that additional documentation would be required. At our request JCP&L met with the staff at Bethesda on December 13, 1977, to discuss this additional documentation. At that meeting, JCP&L committed to provide additional supporting documentation to the Office of Nuclear Reactor Regulation, Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Washington, D.C.

20555. not later than December 23, 1977.

If you are not able to provide complete documentation as discussed at the meeting, it is noted that your staff committed on December 13, 1977, to complete confirmatory testing of the connector assemblies utilized at Oyster Creek by March 15, 1978.

However, based en the documentation and information already provided, the staff has concluded that JCP&L has provided adequate justification to continue operating for the time required to provide the additional information or to complete the confirmatory test program and that the public health and safety will not be endangered.

Please advise us if you have any questions relative to this matter.

Sincerely, George L r Chief Operating Reactors Branch #3 Division of Operating Reactors cc: See next page Oh()f0
