Dear Mr. Lazo:

I am writing to request that an environmental impact statement for a Class

  1. 9 accident be issued before the reopening of the hearings February 9, 1981 on the Cuke Power McGuire nuclear station 17 miles north of Charlotte, North Carolina.

It is my understanding that the environmental impact statement issued in April of 1976 did not admit the possibility of a class #9 accident like the one at Three Mile Island.

In view of the problems with the low pressure containment at the McGuire plant, I believe it is imperative that a supplement to the 1976 statement be issued before the hearings reopen on February 9.

Let me take this opportunity to express my gratitude to the NRC for reopening the McGuire hearings and for.ts conscientiousness in the recent past. My greatest wich is that the NRC will continue to act in the public interest.
