Page 1 of I Docket No. 50-339 Report No. LER 81-044/03L-0 Description of Event On May 28, 1981, with Unit II at 100% power in mode I, the rod position indication for red D 06 indicated > 235 steps while its associated computer point indicated 227 steps for a demand of 228 steps. While attempting to correct the problem, it became necessary to change the signal conditioning module for rod D 06. This event is contrary to T.S.

3.1.3.1 and reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.h.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence Since action was taken and completed to restore the affected rod to operability within the time restraints of Technical Specifications, the

public health and safety were not affected.

--Cause of Event The cause of this event was a defective signal conditioning module for rod D 06 only.

Immediate Corrective Action The immediate corrective action taken was to replace the signal conditioning module (required new process control card) for rod D 06 only.

Scheduled Corrective Action No further corrective action is scheduled at this time.

Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence No action to prevent recurrence is required.
