LER ATTACHMENT RO #2-81-31 Facility: BSEP Unit No. 2 Event Date: 2-23-81 This event occurred when the bourdon tube in the feedwater control system pressure transmitter 2-C32-PT-N00PC ruptured and caused the auto closing of the

. F014J instrumentation isolation valve due to a detected line break.

An examination of the bourdon tube revealed that a hairline crack had developed in

.t e tu e, pro ab bly due to fatigue of the tube material encountered in normal h

b operation.

A review of past operating and maintenance records for the approximate 200 of these type instruments in service on both units revealed this failure was the first occurrence involving an instrument bourdon tube. Based on i

this review, this event has been determined to be isolated with no further action required.
