Dear Mr. Grier:
BIOLOGICAL SHIELD 10CFR50.55(e), POTENTIAL SIGNIFICANT DEFICIENCY NO. 1 UNIT HOPE CREEK GENERATING STATION On July 1, 1980, a verbal report concerning a potential signi-ficant deficiency was reported to Region 1, Office of Inspection and Enforcement representative, Mr. McGaughy.
It was reported that documentation pertaining to quality verification for the lower subassembly of the biological shield supplied by PX Engineering was deficient.
The documentation was found lacking inspection and NDE records of several welds.
Supplemental information was submitted to your office indicating that the analysis of this potential significant deficiency was continuing.
The.most recent submittal in writing was dated November 18, 1980.
The following addresses the question of reportabil.ity in ac-cordance with 10CFR50.55(e):
i PX' Engineering and the Bechtel Power Corporation have assessed documentation deficiencies and all have been resolved.
Solutions were achieved by producing duplicates of existing documents at PX Engineering, reexamining those welds for which docu-mentation could not be located, and conducting engineering evaluations.
