Page 1 of 1 Docket No. 50-339 Report No. LER 80-085/03L-0 Description of Event On Novermber 27, 1980 while operating in Mode 3 the steam flow indications on loop B, FI-2484 and FI-2485, differed from each other by a flow rate greater than the allowable margin of 2.75 E+5 lbs/hr.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence Since the operator placed the appropriate channel, FI-2485, in the

, trip mode within one hour, and there was a redundant protection channel available, the health and safety of the public were not affected.

Cause of Event The cause of this event was a multiplier / divider card which was out of calibration, reading 100 mvde too low. This caused the flow indicator FI-2485 to read 5.04 E+5 pph lower than the actual flow rate. This condition would also have caused the signal comparator card trip point for steam flow < feed flow to actuate later than desired by 5.04 E+5 PPh .

Immediate Corrective Action The immediate corrective action was to place the protection channel in the trip mode.

Scheduled Corrective Action 4

There are no scheduled corrective actions.

i Actions Taken to Prevent Recurrence The circuit card was repinced, calibrated per procedure and the channel restored to an operable status.

Generic Implications There are no generic implications.
