Pualson Review Branches Involved: Mechanical Engineering Branch Description of Task: Review and Evaluate Oyster Creek Inservice Testing Program Review Status: Requesting Additional Information The Mechanical Engineering Branch, Division of Engineering, has reviewed the Oyster Ernak Inservice Testing Program. Additional information in response to the attached questions is essential to the completion of our review. Please request the-licensee to have the information available for a meeting. From past experience we have found it necessary to arrange a meeting with the licensee at the plant to review in detail their response and to seek answers to additional questions thac inevitably develop from our evaluatica of their responsas. To expedite our review, we request a meetingwith 0ystar Creek on Septador 23 and 24, lg80, at the Oyster Creek Plant.

Mcw are the mechanical characteristics of the poisen pumps determined and assured during the performance testing since neither vibration or bearing temperatures are measured?

Provide the specific technical information that supports the determination that vibration is a singularly reliable indication of pump mechanical condition and bearing temperature measurements are not required.
