DUKE POWER COMPANY HCGUIRE NUCLEAR STATION-j Response to IE Inspection Report 50-370/80-08 Deficiency As required by 10CFR 50," Appendix B, Criterion V, and implemented by Duke
- Power Company Topical Report Duke 1A Section.17, Paragraph 17.1.5 specifies in part that, " Activities affecting quality shall be prescribed by documented instructions,.procedurcs, or drawings, of a. type appropriate to the circumstances...."
5 Contrary to'the'above, ultrasonic examination procedures 151-120 Rev. 8 and ISI-131 Rev. 5,used for examining safety-related piping welds and reactor vessel welds, respectively, in preservice inspections do not provide adequate instructions for performing and recording the examinations.
Response
Procedure ISI-120 and all other B&W procedures have been reviewed and all references to unapproved procedures have been deleted. The two forms referenced in the report will be included in a future revision of B&W Pre-service Inspection Manual. However, the use of these forms should not be considered an item of noncompliance. These forms do not alter or replace any data recorded for the examination, nor is tne information on the forms used to determine the acceptability of the indication in question.
Procedure ISI-131 will be revised to include a detailed description of the scan paths and the-identification system for the reactor vessel examinations.
Since the McGuire Unit 1 and 2 preservice reactor vessel examinations have already been completed, the scan path and identification system for these
-)
inspections will be_ included as a supplement to the PSI report.
