Description of Event

on August'28,:1980 while operating in Mode 1 at 33% power a routine inspection was' performed by the Instrument Department during which a feed flow square root converter card was discovered to be out of calibration.

. Reportable pursuant to T.S. 6.9.1.9.A.

Probable Consequences of Occurrence.

The affected. protection channel would not have initiated the steam flow >' feed flow trip: signal at the proper flow rate difference of.1.6 E+6 lbs/hr as: specified.in Table 2.2-1 item no.14 in the' Technical Specification,)but at a nonconservative value of 3.2 E+6 lbs/hr. Since i

a redundant channel was ~ available to initiate the steam flow feed flow mismatch signal at the proper time, and the affected channel was placed in the tripped condition within one hour as specified by T.S. 3.3.1.1, the health and safetyLof the public were not affected.

' Cause of Event The reason the squara root comparator card was out of calibraton has not been determined.

Immediate Corrective Action

The channel affecced by this computation module was placed in.the tripped condition. The camparator card was recalibrated, tested satis-factorily, and returned to service.

- Scheduled Corrective Action The.comparator card was recalibrated a week later and found to be

. functioning properly.

- Action Taken'to Prevent Recurrence No further action are.necessary.
