Addenda of Section XI of the ASME Boiler and= Pressure Vessel Code, except that the extent of examination for Code Class 2 piping welds in the Residual Heat Removal (RHR), Emergency Core: Cooling (ECC,, and Containment Heat Removal (CHR)- systems has been determined by the.1974 Edition through Sumer r

1975 Addenda as required by.10 CFR 50.55a(b).

Furthermore, by. letter dated April 28, 1989, you submitted a request for relief from the requirements of

. ASME Section' XI, Table-IWB-2500-1, Examination Category B-H Item B8.20 to 9

perform a surface or volumetric examination '(as applicable),, as defined by

' ~ Figures IWB-2500-13, -14f, or -15, of 100% of the Teld length of pressurizer integrally welded attachments.

1 The:HRC staff, with technical assistance from Idaho National Engineering Laboratory, has' reviewed and evaluated the program plan, aeditional infctmation provided, and the. relief request. Based on its review of the information submitted and the enclosed Safety Evalubtion and Technical Evaluation Reports,

-the, staff finds that the Catawba Nuclear Station, Units 1 and 2, is in compliance with the requirements cited above, and the justification for the relief: request, in regard to Ccde Class 2 piping welds as reflected in the Reports, :is acceptable. -

.Accordingly, relief from performing 100% surf ace examination, as defined by IWB-2500-13, -14, or -15 of ASME Section XI Code, is 1'and 2 as requested, pursuant to 10 CFR 50.55a(g)(6) granted for Catawba Units (1). This relief is
