Sample System Valve Checkoff List 2-OP-1.2A has been completed.

2-OP-12.1 i Page 5 of 29 07-11-80 3.0 Precautions and Limitations 3.1 Extreme caution must be exercised while taking samples due to possible high temperatures, pressures, and radiation levels.

3.2 The RVP (Radiation Work Permit) will be strictly adhered to at all times while obtaining radioactive or potentially radio -

active samples.

3.3 Open all valves slowly to prevent flashing.

3.4 Wear protective clothing when obtaining samples, i.e. , lab coat, rubber gloves, and face shield or eyeglasses when ob-taining samples out of primary sample sink.

3.5 To ensure a representative sample, purge all samples to their associated purge headers for specific quantities or volumes.

3.6 To prevent damage to the sample coolers, insure cooling water discharge temperature is less than 150*F.

3.7 To prevent damage ta the Radiation Monitors RM-222, 223, 224, (Steam Generator Blowdown), insure the Steam Generator Blowdown Sample coolers 2-SS-E-3A, 33 and 3C discharge terperatrres do not exceed 115"F. The rate of temperature change is critical on the Sodium Iodide crystal and should be less than 10 C/Hr.

3.8 If at any time during the process of sampling, a radiation alarm occurs on Pd-RMS-156 (Sa yle Area Monitor), stop sampling, leave area, and inform the Control Room.

3.9 Inform Control Room Operator prior to and after drawing any Reactor Coolant Syste= sample located in the Auxiliary Building Sampling Room.

. 2-OP-12.1 Page 6 of 29 07-11-80 3.0 Precautions and Lbsitations (cont')

3.10 To prevent any out leakage of radioactive or potentially radio-active gas into the Auxiliary Building Sample Room, ensure that the tell tale indicates air flow into the sample sink when any sample sink door is open.

3.11 During abnormal valve lineups, verify the origin of all. samples.

Due ta the versatility of some systems, samples may not be as marked.

3.12 When sampling high pressure systems, use the stain.less steel sampling bomb.

3.13 When isolating sample bombs, close the ischarge valve before closing inlet valve.

3.14 In the event of an accident that =ay cause core damage observe the following:

3.14.1 Health Physics will generate a special radiation work permit to obtain and analyre the coolant sample based upon current radiological conditions and anticipated radiological harards. Consider use of special dosi-metry; e.g. extremities, head, etc.

3.14.2 Health Physics will . provide continuous dose control coverage while obtaining and analyzing the reactor coolant sample.

3.14.3 Individuals shall not exceed 2.5 rem whole-body and/or 15 rem extremity exposure for the current quarter in the performance of this procedure. l 3.14.4 Reactor coolant samples will be obtained and tra'asported in the appropriate shielded cask.

3.14.5 Sample analysis shall be performed in a fame hood.
