TVA Jrints *5N767-4 and 43N76'-5 Tdentification and Description of occurrence An SI signal was initiated by Train 3 ef Unit 1 SSPS.

Relav K609 n tuated and lat:hed in.

This initiated a start siunal fer 18-5 diesel generator via relay ESlBYl.

Relay CES18Y then started the 3 other diesels. A diesel start T.omentarily energizes the reset coil of 66 LOR reltys far each diesel.

b~ hen 86 LOR trips, the reset coil is instantly deener2ized to prevent damage to the coil. This is a 2'.-V cail used in a 125-V de circuit for quick response.

SSPS relay K609 malfunctioned when the relay clunger " hung uo" in the actuated pooition which caused its cont:.:ts to remain open.

Thus the SI si: nal could not be entirely cleared which subsequently caured '25-V to be standing on the reset ccntacts of the e6 LOR relays.

ii.en tue relays se re manually rotatea to the reset position, 25 volts were applied to the coils.

The coils of each 86IOR relay, 1 per diesel, were replaced and the diesels returned to service.

Relay K609 and latch. mechanism were subscquently replaced.
