Industries, Incorporated ATTN: Mr. James Ponciroli Plant Manager 1130 Central Avenue Albany, New York 12205 Gentlemen: Subject: Inspection Report Nos. 40-2940/80-01 (15000027/80-31) 40-2940/80-02 (15000027/80-38) 40-2940/80-03 (15000027/80-47) This refers to unannounced inspections conducted by B. A. Riedlinger and P. R. Zurakowski of our Region V office on March 19, March 21 and April 9,1980. Shipments of radioactive waste shipped from your facility were inspected upon _ arrival at the Nuclear Engineering Company, Beatty, Nevada disposal site. 1 ) ' Areas examined during the inspections and our findings are discussed in the ) enclnsed inspection reports. Within these areas, the inspections consisted of { a review of the shipping papers, placarding and labeling requirements, radiation 1 measurements, selective contamination surveys, and observations by the inspector. Within the scope of this inspection, no items of noncompliance with NRC regu- , lations were observed. However, there appear to be items of noncompliance , with State of New York and/or U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) require- ments. The attached reports will be referred to these agencies. 1 In accordance with Section 2.790 of the NRC's " Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, a copy of this letter and the enclosed inspection report will be placed in the NRC's Public Document Room. If this report contains any information that you (or your contractor) believe to be proprietary, it is necessary that you make a written application within 20 days to this office to withhold such information from public disclosure. Any such application must include a full statement of the reasons on the basis of which it is claimed that the information is proprietary, and should bS prepared so that proprietary information identified in the application is contained in a separate part of the document. If we do not hear from you in this regard within the specified period, the report.will be placed in the Public Document Room. 8007140 M ,
