Description of Occurrence:

~2 At 165S hrs. on 10.3/76, a leak was discovered at a socket weld, pipe to 900 elbow weld, in the primary makeup pump P36C suction relief line. P36C was removed from service and P36B was placed in service.

This failure could be contributed to the fact that the 3/4" relief line is rigidly supported witile the 6" suction line is subjected to vibration.

Analysis of Occurrence:

Even though only one pump was operable during the time repairs were made, which is allowable by Tech. Spec., there was no ha:ard to the health and safety of the public.

10. Corrective Action:

The defective weld was repaired. An engineering evaluation is being made and if.necessary modifications will be made to prevent a reoccurrence.
