Description of Occurrence:

At 1826 hrs, on 10/3/76, the Primary Makeup Pump P36B was stopped due to an over-current alarm followed by an immediate loss of discharge prer,sure. Primary Makeup Pump P36A was started and then an investi-ge:cion of the cause of failure was initiated.

Analysis of Occurrence:
Since two pumps were operable, except during the repair of a leak reported in 50-313/76-29 when only one pump was operable, (which is allowable by Tech. Specs.), there was no hazard to the health and safety of the public.

- 10. Corrective Action:
Ptap was disassembled and inspected. Shaft, Impellor, wear rings and bearings were determined not to be recoverable. Parts are on order.

Failure Data:
No prior occurrence of this type. The failed component identifications is as follows: Byron Jackson, Horizontal double bearing pump, Type DVMX, Serial Number 691N0063.
