f.A FLORIDA POWER CORPORATION aS 36 CYRSTAL RIVER UNIT - 3 DECAY HEAT REMOVAL PUMP REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION I

1.

Provide detailed engineering drawings for this pump with critical dimensions.

If necessary provide this information as propr ietary.

2.

Provide the engineering criteria which was used in determining the new restrictions of operation at low-flow.

3.

Your letter indicates that an inspection of DHP-1B will not be conducted to establish proper pump alignment.

The staff will require an in:7

, ton of this pump to ascertain rotor alignment with respect to the casing prior to resumption of plant operation.

4 Provide any information available on testing conducted to date on pump DHP-1A.

Further a qualification test will be required on this pump unless it has already been completed, which will address the following areas:

A.

Pump response at varying flow conditions anticipated during the life of the pump.

B.

Accelerometer data taken from the bearing housing in the velocity mode to ascertain peak values at varicus frequencies. Demodulated i

acceleration data taken for the pump casing to ascertain the degree of pump rubbing or impact with the stationary wear rings or casing.

C.

A thorough inspection of the pump at the conclusion of the test.

D.

A verification that hydraulic degradation has in one way occurred due to material removal in the volute area of this pump casing j
