LER ATTACHMENT - RO # 2-80-46 Facility: BSEP Unit No. 2 Event Date: June 11, 1980 An engineering evaluation of the splices identified, revealed that they are similar in construction but varying in tape application amounts and methods.

In addition, the fiberglass tape used in the splices could not be positively identified by type. For these reasons, engineering recommended that further attempts at qualifying the splices be abandoEe'd.

. Plant modifications are being s. itten and will be installed before cach associated unit startup to replace the undocumented splices with Ray-chem Nuclear WCSF Type In-line Field Splices. Procedures will be developed or revised as required to assure that all future field splices required to be environmentlly qualified are installed in the correct manner. Any other non-environmentally qualified splices found during the IE Bulletin 79-OlB inspections will be similarly corrected.
