ENCLOSURE SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSE TO NRC-0IE LETTER FROM J. C. BRYANT TO H. G. PARRIS DATED MARCH 17, 1980 REFERE"CE: RII:JJB-50-18/80-04, -519/80-04, -520/80-04, -521/80-04 This report provides supplemental information to our previous response on Infrac tion 50-518/S0-04-01 (reference L. M. Mills letter to James P. O'Reilly dated April 9, 1980) as requested by Inspector W. P.

Kleinscr;c in his exit interview at the Harteville Nucicar Plant on April 18, 1980. Mr. Kleinsorge requested that TVA address the subject of proper identification of welds made at the Hartsville Nuclear Plant .

before April 4,1980 (the date of implementation of SOP-17).

Surplem?ntal Response

1. Corrective Stens Taken and Results Achieved Examples 1 and 2 The initial response addressed only those weld joints cited as deficient. As a result of Mr. Kleinsorge's request, TVA is investigating all other applica513 accessib12 velds begun since July 31, 1979 (issue date of SOP-34). Those accessible welds found not in compliance with SOP-34 will be brought into compliance by addition of the appropriate markings.

tyample 3 TVA' stated in the initial response that SOP-17 was issued and that full compliance would be achieved by April 4, 1980. Some requirements of SOP-17 and SOP-34 were not clearly in agreement (prLmarily with respect to what point in time stanping is required) and, as a result, full compliance was not achieved.

SOP-17 and SOP-34 are being revised to correct this condition.

2. Corrective Steps Taken to Avoid Further Noncompliance Clarification of the requirements of SOP-17 and SOP-34 will prevent noncomplicnce through misinterpretation in the future.
3. Date When Full Compliance Will be Achieved TVA vill be in full compliance on all of the above by June 15, 1980.
