Reid, Chief Operating Reactors, Branch 4 U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Comnission Washington, D.C. 20555 Docket 50-312 Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1
Dear Mr. Reid:
Your letter of May 1,1980, presented the NRC staff evaluation of Rancho Seco Nuclear Generating Station's compliance with Category "A" items from NUREG-0578. Two of the evaluations required additional infor-mation. That information follows:
2.1.6.a - System Integrity "The licensee has measured and reported the
'as-corrected' leakage for these systems except 'or the makeup and purification system, high pressure injection system and the reactor coolant sampling system. The licensee will measure the leakage from these three systems before start up frcm the present refueling outaga and will report the measured leakage within two weeks of start up."
The Dis trict's May 22, 1980 letter to you provided leak rate information for the makeup and purification system, the high pressure injection system and the reactor coolant sampling system.
2.1.8.b - Sampling "The licensee will address the design and capabilities of the long-term postaccident sampling facility in a report prior to June 1, 1980." is a simplified diagram of the pcstaccident sample system. The diagram shows both :ontainment atmosphere and liquid sample capabilities.

o Mr. Robert W. Reid May 29, 1980 The system will circulate containment atmosphere into the sample analysis station and return it to the containment.
Gas stripped from liquid samples will also be returned to the containment.
The system will draw liquid samples from the reactor coolant system cold leg and from the containment sump via the Decay Heat System.
It will route sample system waste water to the reactor coolant drain tank after analysis.
The District's letter of April 11, 1980, describes sample analysis.
If you require additional information, please contact your resident inspector or me.
Sincerely,
