This refers to the special inspection conducted by Mr. R. Bailey
of this office on August 28-30, 1979 and to the inspection con-
ducted by the NRC Resident Inspector on September 30,1979, at
the Salem Nuclear Generating Station, Unit 1, of activities auth-
orized by NRC License No. DPR-70 and to the discussion of ou-
findings held by members of my staff with Messrs. R. Silverio,
J. Zupko and T. Lesh at the conclusion of the inspection, and to
subsequent telephone discussions on October.2 and 4,1979 between
Mr. R. Bailey and Mr. T. Lesh.
The enforcement correspondence
pertaining to this inspection has been provided separately to you
from NRC Headquarters by the Director, Office vf Inspection and
En forcement.
In accordance with Section 2.790(d) of the NRC's " Rules of Practice,"
'
Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations, documentation of
findings of your control and accounting procedures for safeguarding
special nuclear materials and your facility security procedures are
exempt from disclosure; therefore, except for the report cover sheet,
the enclosure to this letter will not be placed in the Public Document
Room and will receive limited distribution.
No reply to this letter is required; however, should you have any
questions concerning this inspection, we will be pleased to discuss
them with you.
