This refers to the inspection conducted by Messrs. R. T. Dodds and
L. J. Carvin of this office on December la - 21, 1972, of countruction
activities authorized by AEC Construction Permit No. CPPR-56 and to the
discussion of our findings. held by Mr. Dodds with Mr. J. J. Mattimoc,
V. P. McMahon and other members of your utaff at the conclusion of the
,
inspection.
Arcas examined during this inspection fueluded (1) reactor cool,nt prennurc
boundary pipe welding, (2) other Class I pipe welding, (3) Class I components, '
,
(4) inspection checks of essential welding variables, (5) reactor vcancl
instrument nozzle repair, (6) tendon slippage, (7) steam generator support
e
structure repair and (8) several industry related potential generic problemn.
Within these areas, the inspection cousinted of selective examination of
procedures and representative records, interviews with project personnel, and
observations by the inspectors.
In addition, the status of actions you have
,
taken with respect to the items identified in our letter of October 11, 1972
was examined.

We have no further questions concerning the repair of the steam generator
lateral support structures described in your report of. July 24, 1972.

During this inspection, it was f'ound that certain of your, activities appeared
to be in noncompliance with your quality ansurance program requirements.

The items and references to the pertinent requirements are listed in the

enclosure to this letter.

This notice is sent to you pursuant to the provisions of Section 2.201 of
j
the AEC's'" Rules of Practice," Part 2, Title 10, Code of Federni Regulations.
Section 2.201 requires you to submit to this office within thirty (30) dayn
of your receipt of this notice, 'a written neatement or c:cplanation in reply
including:
(1) corrective steps which havia been taken by you, and the
results achieved; (2) corrective steps which will be taken to avoid further
violations; and (3) the date when full compliance will be achieved.
