SUBJECT:
STEAM GENERATOR TUBE LEAK The reactor was shutdown at 3:01 a.m. on July 24, due to an apparent steam gener-i ator tube leak of 0.4 gallons per minute (gpm) in the 'B' steam generator.
The Tecnnical Specification limit.is 0.3 gpm. A portion of the reactor coolant system will be drained and the steam generator tested to identify the leaking tube (s) and failure mechanism.
The affec'ted tubes will be plugged.
Startup date has not been i cer.ti f i ad.
Unit I had returned to power operation on July 22 following a several v;eek outage for emergency feedwater system modifications.

The State of South Carolina has been notified.
Neither the licensee nor the NRC plans to issue a news release at this time.
Tne decision to issue depends on the results of the licensee's investigation and the expected duration.
Region II (Atlanta) received notification of this occurrence by telephone from tr.e IE Resident Inspector at 9:00 a.m. on July 24, 1979.
