UNIT 1 NARRATIVE

SUMMARY

OF OPERATIONS JANUARY, 1980 During the month, there were seven major power reductions, and four unit shutdowns. On January 4, unit power was reduced to remove a condensate pump from service for maintenance then limited with only one condensate pump in service. The unit power was reduced for Main Turbine Governor Valve Testing on January 12, 19 and 26. On January 21, the unit was taken off line to investigate Reactor Coolant System leakage. On January 22, the unit tripped when 1B SGFP tripped on a reverse thrust bearing signal generated by personnel troubleshooting breaker trip indication for 1B SGFP turning gear motor. On January 27, the unit tripped when the instrument air line to 1A SGFP mini-flow valve cracked causing the mini-flow valves to fail open. On January 28, unit power was reduced to maintain the Isophase Bus Cooling System temperature below 170 0 F due to the loss of an Isophase Bus Duct Cooling Fan. The unit power was reduced January 30 due to moisture carryover testing. On January 31, the unit was taken off line to perform NUREG-0578 related design changes.

The following safety-related maintenance was performed in January:

1. Replaced the mechanical seal on 1B Containment Spray Pump
2. Repaired indication on the RHR bypass valve
3. Replaced vacuum pump on RE-ll
4. Repairing the Gross Failed Fuel Detecter
5. Replaced 1B Waste Gas Compressor
