ORB #2 Reading L Reading EGCase AGiambusso UCTE TO L. MI5NING MUNTZING, Director of Regulation FSchroeder COMIONWEALTd EDISO1 REQUEST FOR IfEETING WITd UPPER LEVEL REGULATORY MANACD3."iT ON DRESDEN 1 DECOUTM11 NATION A meeting has been scheduled for 9:00 a.m. on November 26, 1974, between the Regulatory staff and representatives of Cornonwealth Edison (CE) to discuss the planned chemical decot, tamination of the Dresden Unit 1 primary coolant system. You vil.' recall that such a r,ceting was initially requested by Byron Ice, Jr., Vice President of Cocmonwealth Edison in a recent telephone conversation with you.
The purpose of this decontamination operation is to remove a deposition of activated corrosion products from the inner surfaces of the reactor coolant system.
The radiation levels from this source are limiting personnel access to sone areas for surveillance and maintenance p urposes. CE is currently planning to accomplish this decontamination in the Fall of 1976. Additional details on this matter, including a tentative schedule, are provided in the attached memo.
Mr. Lee vill be the senior C tc..&sentative participating in the recting. He has requested, through h2 staff, that the meeting be attended by representatives of Regulatory upper nonagement including yourself, if possibic.
CE has indicated that its formal presentations vill t#e about two hours.
The purpose of the meeting appears to be c:rly id2utification of a tivities associated with the planned decon-taaination that would be of concern to the Regulatory staff. To my knowledge, no items have '>een identified that require the participation of eur upper management.
I believe the tr.ceting vill be devoted to i
discuncious with the techaical staff, and the presence of upper nanage-cent is not required.
We vill invite Herb Koutt so that he -r his people can discuss cl:e developmental aspects of this decontaidnation process.
