JAN ? ; 1370 Mr. Wayne M. Harris, Chairman Air & Water Pollution Committee hbnroe County Conservation Council 220-233 Powers Eu11 dire Rochester, New York 14614

Dear Mr. Harris:

In my letter to Congressman Horton dated September 23, 1969, in respense to your letter to him of September 4,1969, I said we would provide you with information on the estimated release of radioactivity from the Three Mile Island and the Calvert Cliffs plants.

The enclosed Table 11.1-2 from the Calvert Cliffs Preliminary Safety Analysis Report contains information on the estimated annual-discharge of radioactivity in liquid effluents. The enclosed Table 12.1-A-2 shows similar information from the Tnree Mile Island Unit 2 Preliminary Safety Analysis Report.

Since each site will have two reactors, the total activity estimated to be discharged from each site will be approximately double the amount indicated in these tables. The third table enclosed shows additional inforration on the estimated gaseous releases from the Calvert Cliffs plants.

It is noted that these tables represent initial estimates by the applicant on expected releases Essuming 1% failed fuel. Tne asst =ption of 1% failed fuel is a conservative one and is used as a design basis for waste treatment systems to provide assurance that actual releases will be well within the Comnissicn's regulation, 10 CFR Part 20.
