OYSTER CREEK NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION Forked River, New Jersey 08731 Non-Routine Environmental Operating Report Report No. 50-219/79-4 Report Date August 21, 1979 Occurrence Date August 01, 1979 Identification of Occurrence Exceeded a limiting condition of operation of the Technical Specifications, Appendix B, paragraph 2.1.4.3 This event is considered to be a non-routine environmental operating report as defined in the Technical Specifications, Appendix B, paragraph 5.6.2.

Conditions Prior to Occurrence The plant was operating at steady-state power.

Dilution Pump Flow: 5.2 x 105 gpm Circulating Pump Flow: 4.6 x 105 gpm Power: Reactor 1920 MWt Generatur 640 MWe Description of Occurrence On August 1,1979, from 13:15 hours to 13:55 hours, only one dilution pump was in service. At 13:15 hours, with No. I and 2 dilution pumps running, No. 2 di10 tion pump tripped due to high lube oil temperature and could not be restarted. Due to maintenance work being performed at the dilution plant intake structure, the reserve pump (No. 3) was not started until 13:55 hours.

Apoarent Cause of Occurrence Component fa!!ure is the apparent cause of this occurrence. The No. 2 dilution pump oli temperature switch was out of calibration.

Analysis of Occurrence No adverse environmental effects were observed. The maximum discharge bridge temperature observed was 94.l*F (15 minute average) and occurred between 1400 and 1415
