U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission Of fice of Nuclear Reactor Regulation ATTN: Director of Regulation Washington, D. C.

20555 NRC DOCKETS 50-321 AND 50-366 OPERATING LICENSES DPR-57 AND NPF-5 EDWIN I. HATCH NUCLEAR PLANT UNITS 1, 2 CONTINGENCY PLAN Gentlemen:

Pursuant to the Commission's regulations (10 CFR 73.40), by March 23, 1979, nuclear power plant licensees are to submit safeguards contingency plans for dealing with threats, thefts, and industrial sabotage relating to nuclear f acilities.

In a phone conversation ' day between our re-presentatives and your staff, we expressed concern over the degree of detail required for submittal and suggested that such information would be better addressed in plant procedures. Your staff generally concurred.

Furthermore, to aid in the staff's review of the overall contingency plan, we will address additional contingency situations recently identified by your staf f and heretofore not required to be addressed in the contingency plan. We believe this latter action will reduce the total time required for staff review of the Plant Hatch contingency plan.

To address the above-mentioned matters, we will require another week to revise our submittal. Accordingly, we are now planning to submit the proposed safeguards contingency plan for Plant Hatch on or before March 30, 1979.

Sincerely, 40EE W. E. Ehrensper r LTG/mb O
