Docket No. 50-293
.JR 19 U73 G. Carl Andognini Superintendent of Nuclear Operations Boston Edison Company 800 Boylston Street Boston, Massachusetts 02199
Dear Mr. Andognini:
This is to request your cooperation in a special environmental sampling program at the Pilgrim Nuclear Power Station. We would like to implement a program for splitting the Irish Moss, lobster, fish and shellfish samples which you take as part of your routine environmental monitoring program.
This sample splitting was previously ' discussed in a telephone conversation between Mr. James Kottan of this office and Dr. Mogolesko.
The purpose of the sample splitting is to perform Fe-55 and P-32 analyses in order to determine the possible uptake and presence of these nuclides in the marine pathway.
The analyses for these radionuclides will be performed for the NRC by the Department of Energy's Radiological and Environmental Services Lab-oratory.
This sample splitting is similiar in nature to that which we perform at other facilities in conjunction with our contracts with states for independent environmental monitoring. We would like to discuss the sample splitting in a meeting with you and members of your staff at 10:00 a.m., the morning of July 25, 1979 at your office in Boston, Massachusetts.
Should you have any questions on this matter prior to the meeting, the Region I contacts are James Kottail (215-337-5336) and J. Philip Stohr (215-337-5260).
Sincerely, GC
