Date 4/7/79 T. Tambling General Plant Status: Mode 5 (Cold Shutdown) - Maintenance outage 1.

Summary of Licensee Response to IEB 79-05 and Supplements:

a.

Review of Similar Transient (Item 2 of IEB 79-05A):

Task forces set up to review various items of the Bulletin No. 79-05.

Licensee is working with B&W on generic items.

b.

Review and Revision of Operating and Maintenance Procedures (Items 3, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10 of IEB 79-05A):

Proposed procedure changes are being inputed to the Station Superintendent for overall review and coordination prior to review by Station Review Board, c.

Review and Implementation of Changes in Containment Isolation (Item 6 IEB 79-05A):

No design changes are anticipated at this time for contain=ent isolation.

d.

Training of Plant Personnel (Items 1, 4,

11 and plant / procedures changes):

Copies of the sequence of events are being circulated to plant staff.

Training department setting up schedule for operator training to start April 9, 1979.

Efforts are being made to ccupress schedule to three days normal 6 days to get all vn

(Shift 2nd and 3rd)

Discussions with Training department on plans. Discuosion with Station Superintendent on plana and status.

Tour of Centrol Room on 3rd shift. Work on items requested by Co=misbioner Ahearne.

Review of Containment isolation design, 2nd NRC inspector on site at 8:00 am, April 7, 1979 to assist in inspection effort.

Status of Inspector Discussion with Plant personnel.

Still reviewing and digesting material on IES 79-05 and 79-05A in preparation for discussion. Formal discuasions with licensed operators vill begin on 4/9/79 when licensee starts the operator training program discussed in Itcm 1.d. above.

Description Of General Plant Status Plant is in Mode 5 (Cold Shutdown).

Licensee has extended nain-tenance outage a minimum of one week (Synchronization was pre-viously scheduled for April 7, 1979) to insure items in IEB 79-05 l

and 79-05A are complete before startup.

Licensee is usin~g' extension l

to rework valves. Major maintenance items are: Replacement of

l M.S. Code Safety valve, interchanging the positions (location) i of the 1050 and 1100 psig M.S. Code Safety valves, correcting j

valve leaks, repair of a MU punp. DC turbocharger repair and general PM vork.

Licensee is attempting to procure parts and materials to change valves in one train of Aux feed to DC motor operators per Condition of license ("FP-3) section 2.C(3)(F);

modification was orginally scheduled for first refueling outage (3/80).
