Dear Sir:
Please accept this letter as opposition to the licensing and construction of the propsed Perkins Nuclear Plant in Davie County.
I am concerned that no evidence has been produced proving the Davie County site to be superior to the.other sites considered.
Also, no mention has been made concerning noise pollution from the cooling tower fans.
In addition, Perkins will be con-structed to withstand earthquates registering seven points on the Richter Scale, How did NRC conclude this as a safety standard when it is impossible to determine the magnitude of an earthquate until after the fact?
Earthquates occurred in this area in 1969 measuring 4,75 on the Richter Scale and in 1963 measuring 5 points on the Richter Scale (see attached news clipping for earthquate damage resulting from an earthquate registering 5.1).
Another concern is nuclear waste.
How do you propose to dispose of this deadly waste?
I have enjoyed the amenities of the Yadkin River for more than thirty years and in times of drought have seen occasions one could walk accross the river at the site proposed for Perkins.
I am extremely concerned that the construction of Perkins would cause an additional burden to the Yadkin that could possible preclude any future industrial development of our county as well as any water recreation.
Further, a decreased water flow downstream from the Perkins could result in the loss o f my riparian rights.
Therefore, I respectfully request that the licensing and construction of the Perkins Nuclear Station in Davie County be denied.
