The U. S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (,"RC), in carrying out its responsibility to guard against loss or diversior of strategically important nuclear materials in the interest of national security, has specified, in Sections 70.54, 20.62, and 30.55 of 10 CFR Parts 70, 40, and 30, respectively, requirements for submittal to the flRC of material transfer reports wnenever certain transfers of special nuclear material, source material, or tritium occur.

Reports are required for a transfer of one (1) gram or more of contained U-233, U-235, or Pu in special nuclear material,1,000 kilograms or more of uranium or thorium in source material, or 1,000 curies or more of tritium.

In addition, Sections 70.53, 40.64, and 30.55 of 10 CFR Parts 70, 40, and 30 recuire semiannual st:.tements of special nuclear uaterial anc tritium inventories, and annual statements of source material inve ntcries from licensees authorized to possess more than 350 grams of contained special nuclear material, more than 10,000 curies of tri;ium, or more tnan 1,000 kilograms of source material, respectiw.ly.

The flRC utilizes an electronic data processing sy, ten to record these reports. All licensees suoject to these reporting requirements have been assigned a thre e-letter symbol for icentifics.ticn.

This Reporting Identification Symboi (RIS) should be used in completing the transfer forns (NRL/ DOE-741) in accordance with the instructions, and shculd be used in inventory reports and other ccrrespondence with the NRC relative to such reports.

The symbol XWA has been assigned as tne RIS for your activities.

This assignment is for financial purpcses only until such time you are issaed a license by tne NRC for possession of any of tne materials listed above. Until that time your RIS symbol may appear only in blocks 3 and 9 and nat in blocks 6 or 7 of Form NhC/DCE-741.
