Mr. Wayne M. Farris, Chaiman Air & Water Pollution Cc=ittee l

Monroe County Ccnservation Council 220-233 Powers Euildir.g Rochester, New York 14614

Dear Mr. Farris:

i In y letter to Congressran Ecrton dated Septerter 23, 1969, in response to your letter to hi:a of Septerter 4,1969, I said we would provide you

, with infomation en the estimted release of radicactivity from the

'Ihree Mile Island and the Calvert Cliffs plants.

The enclosed Table 11.1-2 from the Calvert Cliffs Prelimiury Safety Analysis Report contains infomation en the estimated annual discharge of radioactivity in licuid effluents. The enclosed Table 12.1-A-2 shows sirilar infor ation from the Three Mile Island Unit 2 Prelir.irary l

Safety Analysis Report. Since each site will have two reactors, the total activity estirated to be discharged frca each site will be s

approxirately-double the a. unt indicated in these tables. The third m

table enclosed shcws additional information on the estirated gaseous releases from the Calvert Cliffs plants.

I It is noted that these tables represent initial estimtes by the applicant en expected releases assuming 1% failed fuel. The assurption of 1% failed fuel is a conservative one and is used as a design basis for waste treatrent systems to provide assurance that actual releases will be well within the Comissicn's regulation,10 CFR Part 20.
