Mr.

R. C. Lewis GENTLEME.4:

The Georgia Power Company hereby amends its response 1979 to your letter of May 24, 1979, describing dated June 12, an apparent noncompliance with NRC requirements noted during 1979, inspection of Hatch Nuclear your March 13 - April 6, The following amended response is offered to resolve Plant.

the concerns of Mr.

R. F. Rogers, HNP resident inspector.

1.

50-321/79-11 Lack of ability to maintain secondary containment through the controlled access barriers. Mr.

Roger's concern is the January 1, 1980, proposed date for full implementation which appears excessive since door number R106 has already been corrected.

The date for full implementation has been changed

Response

to October 1, 1979.

2.

50-366/79-16 Lack of a program to insure that problems discovered on one unit will be immediately investigated for possible impact on the other unit. The 90-day delay to implement this program is unacceptable.

If instead the 90 days is the time required to complete a review of all procedures, LER's, etc. on both units to insure generic problems of safety significance have been addressed on both units, then that appears to be acceptable.

It is present policy that problems with potential

safety impact on one unit are immediately investigated for possible impact on the other unit.

The 90 days indicated is the time required to develop a systematic program.

Very truly yours,
