Docket No. 50-320

Metropolitan Edison Company

ATTH: Mr. J. G. Herbein

Vice President

P. O. Box 542

Reading, Pennsylvania 19603

Gentlemen:

Subject: Inspection 50-320/77-14

This refers to your letter dated June 3,1977, and telephone discussions

between Mr. Kellogg of this office and Mr. Levin of your staff on June

24,1977. in response to our letter dated May 12, 1977.

Thank you for infoming us of the corrective and preventive actions

documented in your letter.

It is our understanding, based on the referenced telephone conversations,

(

that in addition to the actions specified in your letter, an independent

QC verification of the cleanliness of the diesel generators will be

accomplished prior to testing.

It is also our understanding that require-

ments exist which are binding on all other contractors to protect equipment

in and under areas where they are working.

These actions will be examined during a subsequent inspection of your

licensed program.

Your cooperation with us is appreciated.

Sincerely,

.
