UMMARY OF OPERATI1lG EXPERIENCE-MARCii, 1978 Listed below in a chronological sequence by unit is a summary of operating experiences for this month which required load reductions or resulted in significant non-load related incidents.

At 0947 the containment temperature was reported to be
<100°F (min. allowed temp) and a requfred ramp-down was begun.
At 1000 ~t was determined a mistake was made in the calculations and with the unit at 98% a ramp-up was begun.
At 1005 the unit was returned to 100% power.
At 2000 a ramp-down was begun to start a planned outage for* S/G Inspection.
At 2400 the unit was at 26% power.
At 0100 the generator output breakers were -0pened.
At 0120 the reactor.was manually shutdown and a cooldown begun.
At 0630 the unit was cooled down to <350°F and 450 psig.
Refer to other sections of this report for detailed information on maintenance performed.
This report period ends with S/G Plug Repair and plug-ging operation in progress.

Design Change

DC-74-73 Addition of Solenoid Operated Valves to Service Air Receiver Outlet Description -
This design change installs normally open solenoid valves following the check valves in the outlet from the service air receiver before it ties into the service air header.
These solenoid valves are to be actuated by a two position switch in the control room.
Installation of these valves is intended to give the operators additional time to respond to an inoperative air compressor.
Summary of Safety Evaluation The probability of an accident or malfunction of safety equipnent previously evaluated has not been increased, the possibility for an accident different from that evaluated in the FSAR has not been created, and the margin of safety defined as the basis for Technical Specifications has not been reduced.
Conclusion This Design Change neither constitutes an unreviewed safety question nor alters the basis of any Technical Specification.

DC-75-55 Chill Water System Hodification 1&2 Description -
In order to improve the performance of the chill water system this design change incorporated installation 1 1/2" tubing for service water flow to the inner condenser, routing of the 1 11 inner condenser drain to turbine building drains, in-stallation of a 2 1/2" condensate drain pipe, and plugging of the extra penetrations in th~ chill water condenser.

DC-76-29 Flow Shutoff for Low Pressure Heater Drain Pump.
- Miniflow Description -
This design change incorporates the addition of a solenoid valve in the recirculation line which will eliminate cavitation through the miniflow line when flow through the purap is greater than 400 gpm.
Summary of Safety Evaluation This system is not addressed in either the FSAR or Technical Specifications since it is not safety related and does not affect any safety related system.:
Conclusion There are no safety implications for this design change which effect the health and safety of the public.
DC-77-37 Isokinetic (Process Vent) Sampling Description -
To provide for a representative particulate sample from the process vent system, an isokinetic sampling nozzle was placed in line 6"-GW-20-154 at a point where at least 5 pipe diameters of straight unobstructed pipe exists.
(Ref. ANSI Nl3.l-1969).
Summary of £afety Evaluation Neither the probability of an accident or malfunction of safety equipment previously evaluated has been increased nor has the possibility of an accident different from.that evaluated in the FSAR been created.
The margin of safety defined in the basis for Technical Specifications has not been reduced.
Conclusion The safety of the system after this modification has not been lessened because samples of greater accuracy should result.

MARCH, 1978 During this period continued maintenance was required on the Lo Level Screens and Circulating Water Pumps.
This was a result of the severe icing which occurred on February 8, 1978.
Because of this ongoing r.iaintenance, thermal discharge excursions were allowable under Technical Specifications 4.14.B.2 while maintaining full power.

There were no reported instances of significant adverse environmental impact.

..:..18-FUEL HANDLING MARCH, 1978 There were 42 new fuel assemblies received as part of the coming refueling of Unit 1.
All were. removed from shipping containers and stored in the new fuel storage area.
Two new assemblies were shipped back to Westinghouse during this period.
They were two back-up assemblies, should the 17 x 17 deomstation assemblies used in Unit 1 not be approved for use.
Also, the in.serts of the new assemblies were rearranged in the new fuel area to prepare for the upcoming refueling of Unit 1.

The number of tubes recommended by Westinghouse to be plugged, per gaging in-forr:iation are:
A S/G B S/G C S/G 57 84 46 Tube plugging was planned to be complete as of April 6, 1978.
No reportable indications were detected as a result of this inspection.
