GENERIC LETTER 88-17 LOSS OF DECAY HEAT REMOVAL SALEM GENERATING STATION UNIT NO. 1 DOCKET NO. 50-272 By letter dated December 28, 1990 (ref: NLR-N90233), Public Service Electric & Gas Company (PSE&G) submitted a schedule for implementation of the Reactor Coolant System (RCS) Level Indication and the Continuous Monitoring of Decay Heat Removal (DHR) System Performance.

As described in the above referenced letter, the proposed modifications included: A) the installation of two independent differential pressure transmitters between the RCS sample lines of loop 1 and 3, and the vent line in the pressurizer spray piping, and B) to monitor DHR system parameters by using the plant computer with display and alarm functions provided at the computer CRT located on the control console.

Accordingly, as requested by your letter dated January 24, 1991, PSE&G notifies you that it has successfully implemented the commitments of NLR-N90233 for Salem Unit 1 during its tenth Refueling Outage.
