INSPEC~ON NOS. 50-272/92-ll; 50-311/92.:ll
This refers to the inspection conducted by Mr. W. Baunack of this office from* .
July 6*9, 1992. The inspection included a review of activities authorized for your Salem 1 *
and 2 facilities in HanGOCks Bridge, New Jersey. At the conclusion of the insp-ection, the
findings were discussed with those members of your *staff identified in the enclosed report.
Areas examined during the inspection are discussed in the enclosed inspection report. Within .
these areas, the inspection consisted of selective examinations of procedures and
representative records, interviews with personnel, and observations by the inspector.
Based on the results of this inspection, one of your activities. appeared to. be- in violation of
NRC regulations, as specified in the enclosed Notice of Violation (notice). This activity dealt
with the control of measuring and test equipment. The control of .this equipment is vital°to .
the satisfactory maintenance and testing of components important to safety.

You are required to respond to this letter and should follow the instructions specified in the
~nclosed Notice when preparing your response. In your response, you should document the
specific actions taken and any additional actions you plan to prevent recurrence. After
reviewing your response to this Notice, including your proposed corrective ~ctions and results
of future.inspection, the NRC will determine whether further NRC enforcement action is
- necessary. to.ensure compliance with.NRC regulatory requirements.
