Docket Nos. 50-272 and 50-311
- Mr. Steven E. Miltenberger Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer Public Service Electric and Gas Company Post Office Box 236 Hancocks Bridge, New Jersey 08038
Dear Mr. Miltenberger:
November 6, 1~
SUBJECT:
RESPONSE TO NRC BULLETIN 89-01, SUPPLEMENT 2, 11 FAILURE OF WESTING-HOUSE STEAM GENERATOR TUBE MECHANICAL PLUGS, 11 SALEM NUCLEAR GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 (TAC NOS. ~1653/81654)
On June 28, 1991, NRC Bulletin 89-01, Supplement 2 was issued to all holders of operating licenses or construction permits for pressurized water reactors (PWRs).
The bulletin requested that actions similar to those requested in NRC Bulletin 89-01, 11 Failure of Westinghouse Steam Generator Tube Mechanical Plugs, 11 be extended to include all Westinghouse mechanical plugs fabricated from thermally treated Inconel 600. These actions were necessary to ensure that these plugs would continue to provide adequate assurance for reactor coolant system (RCS) pressure boundary integrity under normal operating, transient, and postulated accident conditions.
By letter dated August 9, 1991, you responded to Bulletin 89-01, Supplement 2, by providing the information addressed in the Actions Requested portion of that document.
We have reviewed your response for Salem 1 and 2 and find the information and planned/accomplished actions to be acceptable. Therefore, we are closing out TAC Nos. 81653 and 81654.
