SAFETY EVALUATION REPORT FOR GENERIC LETTER 83-28, ITEM 4.5.2 (REACTOR TRIP SYSTEM RELIABILITY-ON-LINE TESTING)

(TAC NOS. 54021 AND 54022)

RE:

SALEM GENERATING STATION, UNITS 1 AND 2 Public Service Electric and Gas Company was requested by Generic Letter (GL) 83-28, Item 4.5.2, to confirm that Salem 1 and 2 were designed to permit periodic on-line testing of the Reactor Trip System; and if not, to justify not making modifications to permit such testing.

The enclosed SER documents our concurrence with the findings in our contractor's report (EG&G-NTA-7460),

which concludes that your response to GL 83-28, Item 4.5.2 is acceptable.

We, therefore, consider this item closed by this action.
