Inspection No. 50-272/88-24; 311/88-27
This letter transmits the findings of the routine, resident safety inspection
conducted by Mrs. K. Halvey Gibson from December 13, 1988 to January 30, 1989,
at the Salem Nuclear Generating Station.
The findings were discussed with
Mr. L. K. Miller of your staff.
Based on the results of this inspection, it appears that on~ of your
activities was not conducted in full compliance with NRC requirements, as
cited in the enclosed Notice of Violation.
The violation concerns the failure
to properly establish and implement procedures which resulted in the temporary
unavailability of an emergency diesel generator.
You are required to respond
to this letter and in preparing your response, you should follow the
instructions in Appendix A.
The response directed by this letter and the accompanying Notice are not
subject to the clearance procedures of the Office of Management and Budget as
required by the Paperwork Reduction Act of 1980 PL-511.
Your cooperation with us is appreciated.
