SUBJECT:

BIOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT, SEA TURTLE OCCURRENCES AT SALEM GENERATING STATION (TAC NOS. 69356/69357)

On November 22, 1988, the NRC staff met with members of your staff to discuss the preparation of the Biological Assessment pertaining to sea turtles at Salem.

Your request of September 8, 1988 to prepare the Biological Assessment as outlined in your October 22, 1988 letter is hereby approved, subject to the foll owing:

1.

Include details of operational aspects that are in place to minimize capture of sea turtles.

2.

Include a description of the trash bar cleaning process.

3.

Include a section that evaluates the impact of the losses at SNGS on the sea turtle populations and compare the losses to other sources of incidental take.

4.

The Biological Assessment should consider all species of sea turtles reported in the area.
